The message of our consumerist society sells the belief that you are what you own. This message of identity is an answer made for teens who are asking the question “who am I?”
The attraction to prestige brands develops in adolescent years because it’s a time when peer pressure and fitting in are very important, almost that you feel you're competing. From the way you look, to your education, your social status or your interests, everything is important.
Life for many teenagers has become very superficial. We want all those things that everybody in the media and in advertising are talking about. You can gain confidence by improving your beauty or your lifestyle.
Teens spend way more now than in the past.. This is because everyone has to have the new "in" stuff to be cool. Teens go through a lot just to be accepted in today's society.
However, this type of confidence will not last forever, and you will again feel unloved and miserable.
So the only way to gain confidence and be successful in life is to accept the way we are.

This is indeed a sad reality and teens represent the largest share of consumerists but they aren’t the only! Small children and adults are becoming more and more materialistic a and time goes by and that’s a real problem too!
This is, unfortunately, the reality among today's teens. It's very important to make everyone aware of this issue, mostly because teenagers don't realize the dangers and consequences of their acts of consumerism.
